Introduction to Rotary Tools

Rotary tools are handheld power tools with a rotating chuck that accommodates various bits, burs, and accessories. They may be designed as a motor with a flexible shaft or as a unit with rotary bits attached directly to the tool. Tools with flexible shafts usually hang on a handle, with the bits being inserted into the shaft end. A foot pedal controls the speed of the flexible shaft-based tool. Smaller, handheld tools with no flexible shaft are heavier, less powerful, and more bulky to operate. But these handheld rotary tools are more compact, less expensive, and easier to use.
